Stop Walmart on Colorado Blvd! Join the Fight

Many of us in the neighborhoods around 9th Ave and Colorado Blvd. just learned that plans to develop the former Univ. of Colorado Hospital campus now includes a WALMART.

On Tues, June 26th, hundreds of concerned residents gathered at the Christ Church United Methodist Church to hear about the plans, and voice opposition.

This website is devoted to supporting the community effort to stop the intrusion of Walmart into our neighborhood.

  1. Is the Post or Mayor Hancock being paid off to support the Walmart construction and related development on Colorado Blvd. How could any Denver citizen be a supporter of this?

  2. Walmart is the worst company in the world. They must be
stopped. All their box stores have ruined the middle classes.
Low pay, no or little benefits, ugly buildings, environmental destruction, absolute elimination of mom and pop stores and
unique shopping experiences. Wiping out competition. Ruining landscapes across America and world. No “sense of place.” This corporation makes trillions.. Why do they need more stores ?
They need to be forced to close many existing stores that have ruined America in big cities to small town to once was unique rural areas. This is the worst corporation in the world. Why do they allow unions overseas and not here ??? Their march to conquer and destroy competion must, MUST be stopped.

  3. Read “Bait and Switch” in the newest Glendale Cherry Creek Chronicle. Remember to attend the city planning meeting on August 2, 2012 at the Webb Building.

  4. Oddly the Fuqua Development website is “under construction”. When Jeff Fuqua said his emails were running 50/50 for and against how as he reached? If he were to make his email, or any email address, public, perhaps he would hear not only a sea of “no’s” but some constructive ideas. A Walmart is the wrong “shopping experience” for this neighborhood. It is hard to believe that no other large retailer, or group of retailers, is interested in such an ideal location. Was Trader Joe’s thought of as an anchor rather than squeezing into the smaller space under current consideration? Maybe the space is perfect for he new patent office? A developer with vision is needed to make this a unique urban center.

  5. Thank You for leading the fight! I will be writing letters to Denver Business Journal, Denver Post and all local politicians and I urge everyone to do the same.

  6. My wife and I were at the town hall meeting this evening, and we’re completely opposed to Walmart taking up this space. Thank you for creating this site, well be checking back regularly. Many know Walmart is a vile enterprise, evidenced by how coldly it’s been received vs the delight that met the news of Trader Joes moving in across the street.

  7. I attended the meeting this evening, Tuesday June 26. It was a very good turn out of concerned neighbors! If I may suggest a documentary that I urge one and all to see. It is called Wal-Mart: the High Cost of Low Price, rated 93% on a scale of 100. The documentary powerfully suggests that Wal-Mart is capable of demoralizing a community so thoroughly that it doesn’t have the spirit to carry on its life outside the big ox.
