Congress Park Neighborhood Assembly Weds. Aug 15, 7:00 pm
If you live in Congress Park, please attend! Bring proof of address in order to cast this critical vote.
The assembly will be held on Aug. 15, 2012 7:00 p.m. at National Jewish Health, Molly Blank Building Room J103-J104 with a presentation by Fuqua Development. Walmart reps will also be present.
At the conclusion of this Neighborhood Assembly a vote will be taken of those neighbors present who can produce verification of residence within Congress Park, and the outcome will become CPN’S official stance.
The results of the CPN survey regarding attitudes about a possible Walmart at the 9th and Colorado Blvd development can be found here
Meanwhile, the Denver Post has reported that Mayor Michael Hancock is pressuring City Council members to support the Walmart/Fuqua/Pachner development plan, which would require to Council to vote in favor of a lavish, $25-30 MILLION Denver taxpayer handout to the developer, Atlanta-based developer Jeff Fuqua. The Mayor will also be asking the Denver taxpayers to “de-Bruce,” which amounts to a property tax increase, to raise $68 million, ostensibly to cover shortfalls for essential city services.
Mayor Hancock cannot take money from the taxpayers with one hand and dole it out to Walmart and its developer with the other.
We continue to hear stories from residents who have been bothered at home by the developers predictable “astroturf” campaign, the fake grassroots effort dubbed “Neighbors for Ninth.” Paid door-knockers are trolling the neighborhood, distributing full-color depictions of the proposed development, not mentioning the 24-hour, 119,000 square foot Walmart. Be on the lookout for these paid disinformation agents, and send your experiences with them to info-at-stopwalmartcolorado.com
PLEASE urge your City Councilor, the two At-Large Councilors, and the Mayor (along with other councilors as your time allows) to VOTE NO on any “TIF” (Tax Increment Finance) plan that will allocate scarce city resources to the out-of-state developer to build a Walmart.
